The nameplate says McQuay. The parts channel says Daikin. The service call is the same either way.
McQuay International was one of the great names in applied HVAC — chillers, large rooftops, air handlers and water-source heat pumps engineered for institutional buildings — until Daikin acquired the company in 2006 and, some years later, retired the brand in favor of Daikin Applied. The equipment did not go anywhere. Phoenix hospitals, office towers, hotels and campuses still run McQuay RoofPak rooftops, Enfinity heat pumps and McQuay chillers installed through the 1990s and 2000s, and the facility managers who run them still search for the name on the nameplate. The practical question on a McQuay call is age. Most McQuay-badged equipment in the Valley is fifteen to thirty years old. Some of it — RoofPak units in particular — was built heavily enough to justify continued repair and component retrofit. Some of it is at the point where the honest recommendation is a replacement plan. We tell you which.

McQuay Equipment Still in Service
RoofPak is the unit we see most: a large, heavy applied rooftop with multiple refrigeration circuits, built-in economizer and, in many cases, VAV supply-fan control. Enfinity water-source heat pumps populate the ceilings of Phoenix office buildings and hotels by the hundreds. McQuay centrifugal and screw chillers serve central plants, and Vision indoor air handlers move air in institutional buildings. All of it was controlled by MicroTech — the McQuay unit-controller platform that Daikin Applied continued and updated.
Parts, Controls and the Age Question
Parts support for McQuay equipment runs through Daikin Applied and through the general commercial parts market, and for most major components it remains reasonable. What has become difficult is the oldest MicroTech controller generations: boards and displays for early MicroTech units are increasingly scarce, and a controller failure on a mechanically sound RoofPak can force a decision between a controls retrofit and a unit replacement. We evaluate that trade honestly, with numbers.
R-22 is the other constraint. Most McQuay-era equipment in Phoenix runs on it. A leak repair on a system with years of life left can still be justified; a major loss on a thirty-year-old unit generally cannot.
Repair, Retrofit and Phased Replacement
We repair McQuay equipment where the arithmetic supports it, retrofit controls and drives on structurally sound RoofPak and air-handler units, and build phased replacement plans for Enfinity heat-pump fleets that have reached the end of their design life. Can McQuay equipment still be repaired?
Yes, for most major components — compressors, motors, coils, valves — through Daikin Applied and the general parts market. Early MicroTech controller components are the scarce items, and a controller failure on an old unit may prompt a retrofit-or-replace decision.
Who makes parts for McQuay units now?
Daikin Applied, which absorbed McQuay, continues to support much of the installed base. Many components are also available from independent commercial parts suppliers. We source both and tell you which we are using.
Our building has dozens of McQuay Enfinity heat pumps. Do they all need replacing at once?
No. Water-source heat pumps are replaced one at a time, usually by age and reliability. We build a multi-year schedule from maintenance data so replacement becomes a budget line rather than an emergency.
