Rheem occupies the light commercial market — the three-to-twenty-ton packaged rooftops and splits serving restaurants, small retail, medical offices, churches and small industrial buildings across the Phoenix metro. Commercial Classic and Renaissance
Commercial Classic is the family a Phoenix technician has been opening for twenty years: straightforward packaged gas/electric, cooling-only and heat-pump rooftops with conventional controls and a serviceable layout. Renaissance is Rheem's current modular platform, designed for easier configuration and service access, with updated controls and efficiency. Both share the light commercial DNA — economical construction, common components and a broad parts market.
What Fails on Phoenix Roofs
Rheem rooftops show the classic heat-driven pattern: run capacitors, contactors, condenser fan motors and compressor overloads in summer; economizer dampers seized from dust and disuse; refrigerant leaks at coil joints. Because these units so often serve restaurants, we also see the kitchen effect — grease-laden air reaching the rooftop unit's condenser coil through poorly placed exhaust, and filters overwhelmed by a kitchen environment. Cabinet and roof-curb condition matter on older Classic units that have seen many monsoons.
Repair and Replacement Economics
The economics of light commercial equipment favor decisive replacement. A Rheem rooftop is inexpensive enough that a major repair — a compressor on a unit past ten years, a refrigerant circuit repair on an R-22 unit — is often close to the cost of a new, more efficient unit on the same curb. We quote both and say plainly which one the numbers favor. Where a repair is the right call, we make it with genuine and equivalent parts and get the restaurant back to serving lunch.

Our restaurant's Rheem rooftop keeps tripping in the afternoon. What is wrong?
Usually high head pressure from a dirty condenser coil, a failing capacitor or contactor, or a compressor at the end of its life — heat drives all three. Kitchen exhaust reaching the coil makes it worse. We diagnose on the roof and fix the cause, not the symptom.
