Liebert was an independent company, then part of Emerson as Emerson Network Power, and is now the precision-cooling brand of Vertiv — and through all of it, the name on the unit has stayed Liebert. Liebert Generations in Service
Deluxe System/3 and Challenger units with electromechanical or early microprocessor controls, DS units with the first iCOM generations, and current DSE, PDX, Mini-Mate, DataMate, CRV and PCW units with modern iCOM. Remote air-cooled condensers, glycol-cooled and water-cooled configurations appear across generations. The mechanical layout of a Liebert CRAC — compressors, evaporator, humidifier, reheat, blower, filters — has been consistent enough that a technician who knows one generation can service the others.
Service and the Age Question
All generations face the Phoenix pattern of rooftop condenser fouling and high-ambient head pressure, compressor and electrical wear, refrigerant leaks on long line sets, humidifier scale, and filter and blower service. Legacy units add controls scarcity and R-22.
